Six More Warships Carrying 400 Marines Are Ordered to Nicaragua
Two cruisers, three destroyers and a submarine tender are to report to Rear Admiral Latimer, who is told to guard American lives and property.

Six more American naval vessels have been ordered to Nicaragua carrying an expeditionary force of 400 marines, the Associated Press reported on Thursday. The ships are the cruisers Cincinnati and Marblehead, the destroyers Barker, Smith-Thompson and Osborne, and the submarine tender Argonne.
They are to report to Rear Admiral Latimer, who commands American forces in Nicaraguan waters, for such disposition as conditions warrant. The Evening Star added that two other destroyers left Norfolk the day before to replace two ships of their type but will probably be used for the time being to add to Latimer’s strength. Latimer is under instructions to guard American lives and property thoroughly.
The order follows Wednesday’s landing of a guard of sailors and marines at Corinto for the legation at Managua.
