Supreme Court Refuses to Review Sinclair’s Senate Contempt Conviction

The justices give no reason for denying the oil man’s petition, which clears the way for a trial in the District’s courts.

The Supreme Court on Monday denied a review to Harry F. Sinclair in his contempt of the Senate case, which grows out of his refusal to answer questions of the Senate oil committee, the Associated Press reported.

The Evening Star said the court gave no explanation, merely announcing that his petition for review was denied. The action will force Sinclair to stand trial in the local courts on the contempt charge, though it will not preclude him from later asking for a review if he is convicted, the paper said. It added that the Supreme Court’s practice is to decline constitutional questions until all relief has been sought in the lower courts.
